We are a Sport Science Lab in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto

Broadly, the Sport Insight Lab focuses on understanding the development of high-performance athletes. In particular, our research considers how an individual's psychological makeup and the environments they develop in influence athletic skill development. The goal here is to catalogue the extensive range of factors affecting an athlete's capacity to maximize their potential. We also scrutinize the processes of talent identification and athlete selection to understand how we can do these in a more thoughtful, evidence-based way. This work will allow us to develop stronger policy, build better theory/models and construct superior learning environments.

In addition to our high-performance sport work, we use models of athlete learning and development to help understand how to maximize function and performance in non-elite populations. Funding for our research comes from the Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport; the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, Sport Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research among other sources.
